Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in Otwock Sums up Support for Polish Families So Far

15.05.2023

We have introduced family-friendly policies and numerous solutions that empower families. These include programmes such as Family Care Capital, Good Start, Family 500+ and Toddler+. We have taken very tangible measures that enable families to lead decent lives. Reduced taxes also provide direct support that is noticed by every family. These include, for example, solutions such as lower PIT, a higher tax-free amount and allowances for large families.

Premier rozmawia z dziećmi.

"We have carried out a Copernican revolution in family policy. I can use such strong words because everything we have done since then, for seven years and more, has been for the benefit of the family. I think this is plain to see. It is not only a reduction in poverty and impoverishment, but also the creation of new jobs. It is an effective fight against the lingering ghosts of the Third Republic, including the ghosts haunting families – that is, unemployment," stressed the head of the Polish government.

International Day of Families

Every year on 15 May, we celebrate the International Day of Families. On this occasion, the head of the Polish government met with families at a picnic in Otwock.

“Dear Families, today we are celebrating your day – the International Day of Families. I want to emphasise that for our government, the Day of Families is practically every day because a major part of our entire policy is actually dedicated to the empowerment of families," Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki pointed out.

Family-Friendly Solutions – Tangible Support

This is a good day to recall the specific measures we have put in place. These include direct support for families in the form of programmes:

  • Family Care Capital, which is available for a second and each subsequent child in a family between the ages of 12 and 35 months at a maximum of PLN 12,000 per child;
  • Good Start, one-off support of PLN 400 for all students starting the school year;
  • Family 500+, which guarantees PLN 500 for each child up to the age of 18.

The Prime Minister announced the continuation of the family-oriented policy – from 1 January 2024, 500+ will be replaced by 800+.

New Childcare Facilities for the Youngest

We also propose solutions that enable parents to return to the labour market more quickly and continue their professional development. Toddler+ is a programme that enables the establishment of new childcare facilities for children up to the age of three. Local governments also receive funding for their operation.

We Have Tripled the Number of Childcare Facilities for Children under Three in the Last Six Years, with 84,000 Places in 2015, and over 230,000 by the End of 2022.

We are continuing this programme. The 2022–2029 edition will have a budget of PLN 5.5 billion and the funding will create 87,862 new places for children!

During his visit to Otwock, the Prime Minister handed over a symbolic cheque to the city authorities for the creation of a municipal crèche. We have provided almost PLN 4.9 million for this purpose, with a further 3.6 million in co-financing for the operation of the crèche.

Better Financial Situation for Families with Children

The reduction in unemployment is translating into a better situation for Polish families – parents no longer have to go abroad to find employment and support their family, as was the case just a few years ago. Tax cuts are also having a positive impact – for example the increase in the tax-free amount to PLN 30,000.

“A mum with a child can benefit from that additional tax-free amount, but also from the reduced tax, the reduced PIT rate from 18 per cent to 17 per cent, and now even to 12 per cent. This is also part of the Copernican revolution, the family-oriented revolution in our country," Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki pointed out.
