Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki: investment in polymers is also an investment in Polish chemical industry
22.06.2023
A new installation for plastics production has been built in Police, near Szczecin. The plant, which is part of Grupa Azoty Police, is one of the largest chemical industry investments in Europe. The investment will consolidate Poland's position on the market and strengthen our country's raw material independence. In addition to the infrastructure for production, accompanying facilities have also been created – an offshore gas port, storage silos and a logistics platform. The “Polimery Police” complex uses the latest technologies to produce plastics and hydrogen. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki attended the ceremony to mark the start of production at the Grupa Azoty Police plant. He stressed that the new investment is a great contribution to the Polish chemical sector and creates many new jobs.
“Polimery Police” – modern production complex of Grupa Azoty
The Grupa Azoty plant in Police near Szczecin has gained a new complex for the production of propylene and polypropylene. The production launch ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
“This is a big deal for the entire Polish industry. Polymers are a great investment opportunity that we could not fail to recognise. I am glad that this project was completed on time and within the budget. This is also a great achievement. Much respect for all the contractors,” said the head of government.
The newest industrial installation will produce plastics that are used in the industries such as packaging, household goods, automotive or pharmaceutical.
“We have to import much more chemical goods, various types of products, semi-finished products, than we can produce and export at home. This means that an investment like this was not only very necessary from the point of view of supplementing the product range of Grupa Azoty, but is also important, crucial for the entire economy of Poland,” emphasised Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
Investment in the latest technology means new jobs
The “Polimery Police” complex is one of the largest investments in the Polish and European chemical industry. The new products offered by Grupa Azoty will have a positive impact on Poland's position in the plastics segment. The efficient and modern factory will strengthen the country's raw material independence as well as the export offer of our economy. At the same time, the new factory will also create jobs – both at the plant and in local businesses.
“We want to keep the added value here in Poland. What else does this mean? Later, it means hundreds and thousands of new jobs, jobs for people with top and high qualifications – industrial and technical qualifications, as well as qualifications in the field of new technologies. Qualifications that will help us reduce the PLN 18 billion annual deficit in chemical trade. This is a great thing,” pointed out Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
The industry in Poland can spread its wings
Grupa Azoty's project in Police is a major step in the further development of Polish industry. Modern technologies and green solutions are key elements of the Polish economy of tomorrow. The “Polimery Police” plant will also produce hydrogen, whose increased production in our country will help to further develop the hydrogen market and technology in Poland.
“We know very well that these ripples on the water of modern industry, modern technology will spread widely from Police to the whole of western Pomerania, and – I am convinced – to the whole of the Republic,” said the head of government.
Many global companies choose Poland for the further development of their activities and new investments. Recently, companies such as Intel, Visa, Microsoft, Google, Volvo and Mercedes-Benz have decided to make significant investments in our country. Poland is a country that accommodates the development of industry and entrepreneurship, which is evidenced by further large investments.
