Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki: Katowice and Gliwice will be the Polish host cities of the Volleyball World Championship

03.06.2022

Poland will be one of the organisers of the 2022 Men's Volleyball World Championship. Originally, the Championship was to be organised by Russia but the International Volleyball Federation took away the right to organise the event after the country’s invasion on Ukraine and appointed Poland and Slovenia to be the hosts.

Poland can organise great sporting events

‘’Poland has proved that it can organise great sporting events. The country has excellent organisational and operational skills. And it got appreciated’’ – emphasised Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. ‘’It is very good that, initially, the International Volleyball Federation took away the right to organise the World Championship from Russia, and then decided to organise them in Poland and Slovenia instead” – added the Prime Minister.

As the Head of the Government emphasised, Silesia will be the host of a great volleyball celebration. ‘’I am convinced that we will celebrate great successes of Polish sport” – noted the Prime Minister.

Men’s Volleyball World Championship

This year’s World Volleyball Championship will be held in Poland and Slovenia. It is the consequence of the decision of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), which, in March, took away Russia's rights to host that prestigious tournament. Poland will organise, inter alia, the semi-finals and the matches for medals. The final match is scheduled for 11 September and it will take place in Spodek in Katowice. This year, during the tournament, Poland will defend its title of world champion. The Polish team will play against the United States, Mexico and Bulgaria.
