01.12.2021
The Medical Fund is a specifically created medical and financial vehicle to finance the entire health system in key areas. ‘This is an unprecedented increase in spending on health care,’ emphasised the head of the Polish government. ‘The Medical Fund had the support of our entire government from the very beginning because it serves people and responds to the problems of the health service and the entire Polish society.’
The establishment of the Medical Fund was announced by the President, Andrzej Duda, in March 2020. The decision on its creation was preceded by the diagnosis of health care needs, as a result of which the areas for improvement will be addressed. The objective is to support activities aimed at the improvement of health and the quality of life by ensuring additional sources of funding.
What will be funded?
Additional resources under the Medical Fund will be allocated for:
• the modernisation of medical facilities to ensure more effective health care for seniors,
• the development of preventive medicine,
• strategic infrastructure,
• therapeutic and innovative activities.
The head of the Polish government declared that all necessary measures will be taken to ensure that the Fund can be used to perform specific tasks as soon as possible.
Increasing funds for health care
The Prime Minister thanked the President for his positive approach to the Polish Deal, which provides for an increase in funds for health care of up to 6% of the GDP in 2023 and 7% in 2027. As a result, it will be possible to achieve the objectives of the Medical Fund, which provides for a budget of PLN 39.8 billion.
‘Thanks to the Medical Fund and increased spending on health care, Polish doctors and other healthcare professionals will have new treatment options. Hospitals and healthcare infrastructure will also be modernised,’ announced the Prime Minister. ‘I am sure that year after year we will see the difference in the quality of services.’
