Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki: Public education is our common good. Teachers are its creators

During a ceremony to mark the National Education Day, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Minister of Education and Science, Przemysław Czarnek, presented teachers and education employees with honours and awards. This was in recognition of outstanding achievements and merits for the development of education and upbringing. The celebration of teachers was accompanied by a musical concert to the words of C. K. Norwid.

National Education Day is a celebration of all teachers and education workers. During a ceremony at the Prime Minister's Office, the Head of Government thanked representatives of this group for their efforts and commitment to meet the challenges posed by the pandemic.

"We thank teachers for becoming IT experts overnight, for developing the right teaching methods to meet the challenges we face in the era of COVID-19," said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

The head of Government also drew attention to the changes occurring in the contemporary education model and the need to shape an attitude of continuous development. Teachers are becoming increasingly important in the construction of the world of the future. In this world, education will be lifelong. He also added: The knowledge acquired and expanded at school is the basis for shaping our youth's character, spirit, and minds.
Concluding his speech, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki thanked teachers for their hard work, patience with students and efforts. The Head of Government also stressed the importance of the daily activities of teachers in building a better Republic of Poland.

Honours and awards

During this year's National Education Day celebrations at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, 57 teachers received medals and honours. Distinguished teachers and educational workers received the Cross of Merit, Medals for Long-term Service and Awards of the Minister of Education and Science. 

Teachers with remarkable achievements, whose attitude shapes the model of a teacher and educator, also received the title of Honorary Professor of Education and Medals of the National Education Commission. These are people whose work significantly contributes to the development of education and upbringing. 

The Crosses of Merit and Long Service Medals were awarded to teachers and education staff who perform their professional duties in an exemplary manner on a daily basis. Awards of the Minister of National Education were given to teachers for their achievements in teaching, upbringing and care.

PLN 8 billion for teachers' pay rises

Current government action will further improve the material situation of Polish teachers. This amounts to almost PLN 8 billion towards salary increases for representatives of this professional group. The average salary of a teacher entering the profession will rise by as much as PLN 1,412. Thanks to the proposed solutions and the reduction of bureaucracy, teachers will have more time for their pupils. 

National Education Day 

National Education Day, a holiday for all education workers, falls each year on the anniversary of the establishment of the National Education Commission. The Commission's traditions date back to 1773 when it was appointed on the initiative of King Stanisław August Poniatowski and entrusted with the reform of education in Poland. These were pioneering measures on a European scale.
