Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki received the head of the Estonian government, Kaja Kallas

25.04.2023

At the Chancellery of the Prime Minister the politicians met to discuss security issues in our region, as well as selected bilateral and international issues. Poland and Estonia often have identical perspectives on the most important issues for Central and Eastern Europe. Our bilateral relationship is also developing dynamically - particularly in trade and digitalisation.

Poland and Estonia are moving in a common direction

Our countries face the same threats today, but we are also looking at long-term cooperation. Polish-Estonian economic cooperation is working very well, and trade is increasing. Estonia and Poland are also very successful in the digitalisation of various public administration processes. In this regard, we almost always speak with one voice at the European Council. Also regarding security issues, our countries share a similar outlook on challenges and perspectives.

“I am glad that we have such a good friend in Estonia - a country that is not only like-minded, but, I believe I can say, thinking identically about all these issues. This is extremely important, because we are living in crucial times, times that can determine the situation for the coming decades,” stressed Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki after talks with the Estonian Prime Minister.

Together we strengthen the security of the region

Poland and Estonia are cooperating intensively in strengthening their common security. We set an example of solidarity and trust by actively supporting each other in NATO - Polish pilots effectively patrol the airspace of the Baltic States, and Estonian soldiers helped with the physical security of the Polish-Belarusian border of the European Union. Such solidarity builds a guarantee of security and strengthens Poland’s position as a provider of security to our neighbouring countries.

“We count on our NATO allies, but we also want them to be able to count on us, and that is why our joint actions, the example of solidarity between Poland and Estonia, is crucial here,” said the head of the Polish government.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki also announced that the Polish arms industry will start supplying our combat-proven Piorun anti-aircraft sets to Estonia this year.

We know the stakes of the war in Ukraine and we are explaining this to our Western partners

The head of the Polish government and Prime Minister Kaja Kallas discussed issues related to support for Ukraine and thus the involvement of Western partners in the security of our part of Europe. Together, our countries emphasise the importance of Sweden's and Finland's membership in NATO.

“It is remarkable that the nations that are closest to a powerful neighbour find at the same time the greatest courage to react in the right way, to explain the issue to their partners in Western Europe. We devoted a large part of our meeting today precisely to how to explain the real challenges, but also the stakes of this war - how to explain the stakes of this war to our partners in Western Europe. This is, of course, what we are doing together with the Prime Minister of Estonia,” said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki during the press conference.
