Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki: Sport is something more – it builds character
26.09.2023
We care about the sustainable development of local Poland. This is possible thanks to a good economic policy and the funds we have recovered in the fight against the VAT mafias. We are investing in projects close to the people – building and modernising day nurseries, kindergartens, libraries, roads, pedestrian crossings and gymnasiums. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki visited one of the investments in Wałcz that received government funding. The new sports hall will not only benefit young people but also the local community.
We are levelling the standard of living across the country
New investments bring more jobs. Local construction companies are winning contracts and providing employment. Government subsidies from the national budget result in the modernisation and construction of day nurseries, kindergartens, libraries, fire stations, sports or cultural facilities throughout Poland. Such measures lead to a levelling of living standards for residents across the country.
“There is a need for good infrastructure for children, young people and the elderly. Such infrastructure is being created in Poland. I am glad that the 8th Central Sports Centre is being built here. The hall under us is one of the highest technical and sports achievements – so to speak, and at the same time, one of the best in the world,” stressed the Prime Minister.
National funding
The subsidising of many investments in Poland, such as day nurseries, kindergartens, libraries, fire stations, sports or cultural facilities, was made possible by good government policy and the tightening of the tax system. The repair of public finances, including the fight against the VAT mafias, has made it possible to change the conduct of policy over the past few years. We are levelling the playing field and providing support, especially to those who need it most.
“We are investing in Wałcz County - not only this magnificent hall, not only this magnificent Central Sports Centre, but also various sections of road between villages in the county and, as part of the rebuilding of streets in Wałcz, we are also allocating nearly PLN 1 million in government funds to make it easier to travel on roads that used to be somewhat impossible to use,” said the Prime Minister.
Government funding for investments close to the people
We help municipalities and counties to make the investments that local communities need. Thanks to government programmes, we are levelling out development opportunities for all residents of our country.
- Government Strategic Investment Programme – local authorities across Poland receive non-refundable funding for public investment. We support the sustainable development of our country. Thanks to these funds, we can invest in roads, sports facilities, refurbish schools, renovate parks or water and sewerage systems.
- Government Fund for Local Investments – more than PLN 13 billion have been allocated from the programme to the budgets of municipalities, counties, towns and cities across Poland for investments close to the people. These funds are earmarked for the reconstruction of local roads, retrofitting of hospitals and construction of day nurseries or libraries.
- Government Road Construction Fund – local authorities receive funds to repair and build local roads. The safety of pedestrians and drivers improves with each new investment.
- Support for municipalities with former state-owned farms – we also support municipalities and counties that used to have state-owned farms and that were forgotten by previous governments. We have already allocated more than PLN 8.5 billion for these municipalities.
- Government Monuments Reconstruction Programme – a non-refundable subsidy for conservation, restoration and construction works on monuments.
We have launched an interactive investment map where everyone can check which investments have been financed with public funds in their municipality – mapainwestycji.gov.pl. Check out investments from your area.
Multipurpose hall of the Central Sports Centre
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki visited the investment site in Wałcz, where a multipurpose hall is being built on the grounds of the Central Sports Centre – Olympic Preparation Centre. The hall will be fully equipped to meet the requirements of such sports as basketball, volleyball, handball, indoor hockey, badminton and futsal, a variation of football that is played indoors. Funding from the State Target Fund – Physical Culture Development Fund amounted to 80% of the investment value.
“It is a hall where several volleyball matches can be played at the same time, two full-size handball courts and, of course, basketball, but we have space here for running tracks – for 60 metres and 200 metres and, of course, many other disciplines,” said the Prime Minister.
When the hall will not be used for sporting purposes, it will also be available to the local community, the inhabitants of Wałcz, Wałcz County and surrounding towns.
“We can recommend and ask our dear children and young people to use this wonderful infrastructure that is emerging in Poland – here in Wałcz, but also many sports halls that are being built all over Poland. This kind of infrastructure will also provide opportunities for physical development,” said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki during his visit to Wałcz.
