05.03.2022
On 5 March, the head of the Polish government talked to the Prime Minister of Norway as part of the ongoing coordination activities carried out by the Polish Prime Minister in the scope of Europe's joint response to Russia's illegal attack on Ukraine. The Prime Ministers discussed the coordination of comprehensive support to Ukraine and humanitarian aid to people sheltering from hostilities. The politicians also discussed the strengthening of sanctions against Russia, security and defence. One of the most important topics was energy security - in the context of Norway's key role in the European supply system.
Norway active on NATO's eastern flank
Since the beginning of March, additional Norwegian troops have been deployed in Lithuania as part of the NATO multinational battle group. They strengthen the eastern flank in response to Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. NATO stands ready to defend all allies against acts of aggression.
Norway’s contribution to the energy security of the European Union
The EU Member States import more than 80% of the gas consumed, of which more than 20% comes from Norway. Poland demands that the European Union place an embargo on Russian gas, oil, and coal. Norway is one of the existing sources that may potentially increase the amount of gas imported to the EU.
Polish humanitarian aid for Ukrainians
Poland provides comprehensive humanitarian aid, as well as logistical, operational and financial support to refugees from Ukraine. Both state and local authorities and thousands of Poles are involved in the great operation of providing humanitarian assistance for Ukraine. Poland offers help to people fleeing the war. There is a logistics hub for aid intended for Ukraine near Lublin.
