Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki: the development of Polish defence industry is important in Gliwice and across Poland
26.04.2023
The development of Polish armament manufacturers is crucial for our country. Thanks to investment in that area, we can modernise production lines, we get new orders and we create more jobs. During his visit to Bumar Łabędy in Gliwice, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced the production of the Krab howitzers at that factory. Poland has also recently signed a letter of intent to service Leopard 2 tanks at Bumar Łabędy.
Industrial growth means new jobs and higher salaries
Thanks to the tightening of the state budget and the liquidation of the VAT mafia it is possible to transfer even more funds not only to the modernisation of the Polish Army, but also to Polish armament manufacturers. Today, we have additional funds for investment in state-of-the-art technological lines, which will serve the development of Polish industry. This means more jobs and increase in the remuneration of Polish employees.
- This is most important for me – remuneration of Polish employees and new jobs, as advanced jobs as possible, jobs for everyone, for technicians, designers, engineers, process line workers, there must be as many jobs as possible for everyone - stressed the head of the Polish government.
Bumar Łabędy - strategic armament manufacturer
The head of the Polish government delivered good news to the employees at Bumar-Łabędy. Modern Krab howitzers will be manufactured at that plant.
Zakłady Mechaniczne Bumar-Łabędy is a plant of strategic importance for national defence. The company specialises in the production, repair and modernisation of armoured equipment. The plant is also the main contractor in the modernisation of Leopard tanks.
At the turn of February and March 2023, Poland handed over as many as 14 Leopard 2A4 tanks. Vehicles of that type will also be supplied by Norway, Canada, Germany or Spain. The use of Western equipment by the Ukrainian army requires servicing, repair and supply of spare parts. We have declared our readiness to create a service centre for Leopard 2 tanks in Poland.
- The service centre, the repair centre for Leopard tanks will be located here. A part of the production, assembly and service line of Leopard tanks is already here – said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
Purchase of Polish equipment by Ukraine
On 5 April, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and President Wołodymyr Zełenski met at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, where they discussed matters related to supporting Ukraine in its fight for freedom. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, we have donated a significant amount of heavy equipment.
Recently, Ukraine has placed orders in Poland for a significant amount of armament of Polish production - Krab howitzers, Grot carbines and Rosomak armoured personnel carriers. This is a great success for the Polish defence industry.
- Krabs will be manufactured by Bumar in Gliwice. This is what the employees and the management were striving for - said the Prime Minister.
