Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki: there is no Polish economy without strong Polish agriculture
29.07.2022
Farmers in Poland have faced many challenges in recent years. As part of the program for the Polish countryside, we have introduced numerous solutions to facilitate farmers' work and development. It is farmers who provide us with food security, and with their hard work they contribute to Poland's development. The prime minister met with farmers in Kozki to thank them for their work on behalf of our country and to talk about current challenges.
- I wanted to thank all farmers very much for your toil, your efforts, your determination to maintain your fatherland, your determination to cultivate the land, and also for trying to do everything to make this sector of the economy, but also the entire Polish economy, stronger and stronger. There is no Polish economy without strong Polish agriculture. This is our motto, this is what we deeply believe in,” stressed the head of the Polish government.
Challenges in the area of agriculture
Weather that is not conducive to crops, African swine fever, energy crisis and related energy prices are just some of the challenges farmers have been facing over the past few years. A variety of government measures are aimed at helping face them.
- In this difficult time, I think the Polish farmer knows very well that we are doing everything to make the Polish countryside the best it can be,” the prime minister noted.
The word given to the farmer is sacred
As part of the program for the Polish countryside, we carry out activities through which we increase the competitiveness of Polish agriculture and improve the working conditions of farmers. These include, among others, subsidies above the EU average for small and medium-sized farms.
For a long time, Polish farmers competed in the European Union on an unequal basis. Currently, small and medium-sized farms receive a bonus that allows them to increase their per-hectare subsidy. As of 1 January 2023, it will apply to all farms up to 50 hectares.
- What we promised has either been done or is in the process of being done,” the head of the Polish government stressed.
Infrastructure programs
At the same time, the prime minister drew attention to the infrastructural needs of the Polish countryside. Hence the infrastructure investment programs that we have been consistently implementing for several years. This will not only give Polish agriculture an equal chance to compete with others in Europe, but also make the Polish countryside an attractive place to live.
- We are also doing this so that the Polish farmer, a resident of the Polish countryside, will finally feel appreciated. This dignity, which was often lacking in the economic policy of the Third Republic towards the Polish countryside, must be rebuilt,” the prime minister noted.
