Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki visits the Single Mothers’ Home at the Archdiocese of Kraków

18.12.2021

All government programmes are guided by the main goal – the prosperity and comfort of the lives of Poles. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki visited the Single Mothers’ Home at the Archdiocese of Kraków, where, thanks to a targeted grant from the state budget, reconstruction and renovation is underway. The investment will enable adapting the home to the needs of the women and their children who live there, increase the number of places available and create an office for counselling and psychological support.

Thanks to a targeted grant from the state budget provided by the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, reconstruction and renovation of the home has been carried out since 15 September 2021. The funds were transferred to implement the project “Becoming a Mum” – support for pregnant women and women after childbirth in a difficult life situation.

The works carried out aim to adapt the home to the needs of the women and their children living there and increase the number of places available.  The extension of the facility will also allow creating an office for counselling and psychological support for pregnant women and their families. A helpline for women has been set up for the duration of the renovation

Experience of working with mothers shows that they often do not have the opportunity to return to their family environment. The extension of the home will make it possible to create places for those women who need a more extended stay due to a slower process of adaptation to a new life situation.

Its beginnings are connected with Cardinal Karol Wojtyła, who decided to buy the building. It took place before his departure to Rome for the conclave, during which he was elected Pope. The home provides care for pregnant and post-partum women who, due to a difficult life situation or experience of violence in the family environment, cannot safely give birth there and stay with their child in the first months after birth.

Mothers and their children are provided with a home to stay in and perinatal care support. They also have access to psychological and therapeutic, social and legal assistance. The home is run by the Sisters of Nazareth.
