08.07.2022

The government has been supporting local authorities in the implementation of investment projects involving local roads. Between 2019 and 2022, we have subsidised more than 16,500 kilometres of such roads. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki visited the Grabnik-Grabówek-Jastrząbka-Gaczyska road, the reconstruction of which was 80 per cent funded by the Government Road Construction Fund.

Increase in funding for the modernisation of local roads

"When we took over the reins of government, the road development programme in districts and municipalities was very limited. On average, it was PLN 500-600 million per year," indicated Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. "Today, it is at least five times more per year, and sometimes, ten times more," he added. As the head of government explained, the construction and renovation of roads were possible as a result of the rectification of public finances.

The Sejm is currently working on a government draft amending the Act on the Government Road Construction Fund. The amendment aims to allocate an additional PLN 2 billion for local government roads. PLN 1 billion will be assigned to municipal, district and voivodeship local governments for investment projects that will improve the safety of pedestrians and cyclists. Additional pedestrian crossings, pavements and cycle lanes will be built. Another PLN 1 billion will be given to local authorities for small repairs and road surface improvements.

Twenty-two kilometres of the road were reconstructed. A roadway with a 6-metre wide bituminous surface was created. The shoulders were also paved and pedestrian pavements were added in some places. Vertical markings and pedestrian crossings were made as well.

The total cost of the investment project exceeded PLN 28.8 million, 80 per cent of which came from the Government Road Construction Fund.

The fund supports local governments that implement investment projects involving local roads. It aims to accelerate the creation of modern and safe road infrastructure at the local government level, which is an essential element in the functioning and development of the economy that contributes to improving the standard of living of citizens.

The GRCF also strives to improve road safety and technical parameters of the local road network, as well as enhance the attractiveness and accessibility of investment areas.

Between 2019 and 2022, the government has subsidised more than 12,000 investment projects relating to local roads. This amount represents more than 16,500 kilometres of such roads.
