Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki's visit to the White House
11.04.2023
The first day of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki's visit to the United States of America began with a meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris at the White House in Washington. The conversation between the head of the Polish government and the American politician covered a number of topics, including Polish and American involvement in European security, energy cooperation and arms contracts between our countries. The Polish Prime Minister also stressed the importance of American investments in Poland. The United States is one of Poland's closest allies – our relations are now probably stronger than ever. Economic cooperation and military cooperation are the key points of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki's current visit to the United States.
The Polish-American partnership is the foundation of a safe future
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki is visiting the United States of America from 11 to 13 April 2023. This is a continuation of the strengthening of our bilateral relations, directly following President Joe Biden's visit to Warsaw.
“The alliance with the United States is the absolute foundation of our security. Our security rests on two pillars: economic cooperation and defence cooperation. I am going to the United States to strengthen both these pillars, to reinforce their foundation, to build them in cooperation with our allies,” stressed the head of the Polish government before flying to Washington.
The visit of the Polish Prime Minister to the US includes several important points – in the following days, he is scheduled to meet with representatives of leading companies in the US arms sector and participate in a debate at the headquarters of the International Monetary Fund. The head of the Polish government will also give several interviews to leading US media presenting the Polish point of view on current issues.
American investment in Poland is a key element of our partnership
A major topic of discussion between Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and the US Vice President were joint projects and investments. Poland resisted Russian energy blackmail and ended its dependence on Russian energy resources. Today, we are looking to the future and building prospects for our country's energy security. We have concluded an agreement to build the first nuclear power plant in Poland in cooperation with the United States of America. Nuclear energy for Poland is an important step towards a greener and safer future of our economy.
“One of the projects I discussed with Vice President Kamala Harris was the nuclear power project. Here, the presence of American investors is particularly intense and particularly important,” said the head of the Polish government.
In addition, Poland is ready to receive key investments from major US technology companies. Americans see the great development opportunities our country offers. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki stressed that American technology investments in Poland will bring enormous benefits in the form of additional capital, high-paying jobs and further development opportunities for Polish women and men.
“Today, here from Washington, I can say that I know that there will be further investments in Poland – highly advanced investments, investments in the latest technologies, but also arms investments. This is an extremely important thing in the era of building and cementing the Polish-American alliance,” noted the head of the Polish government.
We supply the Polish Army with state-of-the-art equipment
One of the crucial topics of the visit of the head of the Polish government to the United States is the implementation of Polish-American contracts for the purchase of American military equipment for the Polish army. The development of our defence potential, for which we are allocating 4% of GDP in 2023, is based on equipping our soldiers with Polish-made equipment, but also with state-of-the-art technologies produced in the United States of America. We are buying American equipment and simultaneously supporting American arms investments in our country, which will directly translate into Polish security.
“Poland wants to build the strongest army in Europe, which is why we want to cooperate with the most advanced defence industry in the world, that is the US industry,” said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
Already within the next few years, our military will be equipped with world's best M1A2 Abrams SEPv3 tanks and fifth-generation F-35A multi-role fighters. In addition, the Polish sky will be guarded by the proven PATRIOT system batteries, and Polish soldiers will operate HIMARS launchers. The procurement of this state-of-the-art equipment is part of the Polish-American military cooperation – in the hands of Polish soldiers, it will provide a strong basis for our country's defence for decades to come.
Poland today is an example of common-sense policy
Europe and the world as a whole is today at a turning point in history and geopolitics – Russia's aggression against Ukraine has shown that freedom is not given permanently. We emphasise that our strength and direction for the future are our values based on freedom, peace, democracy and cooperation.
“There are no nations that love freedom more than the Poles and the Americans – this also unites us,” stressed the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki spoke to Vice President Kamala Harris about the importance of the transatlantic community in defending our values. We share a common perspective on global challenges and we know that a united Europe in close cooperation with the United States of America will guarantee us a safe future.
“Poland is trying to maintain the most common-sense policy based on a close alliance with the United States within the European Union. This is the best path for Poland in the years to come – one that will certainly ensure our security and also help us enter an accelerated path to prosperity,” concluded the head of the Polish government.
