Prime Minister: Poland has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the EU

16.08.2021

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Poland has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the European Union. This is thanks to the support provided to entrepreneurs by the Polish government. Under the Anti-Crisis Shield and Financial Shield initiatives, Polish companies received over PLN 237 billion. Our goal is to provide employment stability for employees and development opportunities for companies. This will be made possible by the Polish Deal – a comprehensive programme that all Poles will benefit from. The new solutions were introduced by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki during his visit to the Dino company distribution centre and Auto Power Electronic company in the Opolskie Voivodeship.

Low unemployment rate and over PLN 237 billion in government support for Polish companies

The COVID-19 pandemic took its toll on everyone, but it was companies that have been particularly hard-hit by it. The Polish government was not indifferent to the entrepreneurs’ requests. Under the Anti-Crisis Shield and Financial Shield initiatives, Polish companies received over PLN 237 billion. Our support covered nearly 8.2 million jobs.

Importantly, in June 2021, the average employment in the enterprise sector was 2.8% higher year-on-year and amounted to 6359.3 thousand. On the other hand, the average monthly salary was higher by 9.8% year-on-year and amounted to PLN 5,802.42.

– “Unemployment was the bane of the Third Polish Republic. New jobs are created through new investment projects, such as the one in the Opolskie Voivodeship and thousands of others across Poland. At the same time, this brings new perspectives for the development and formation of a strong, and increasingly stronger, Polish middle class”, Prime Minister Morawiecki emphasized. High unemployment – a major issue faced by the Third Polish Republic – is a thing of the past. Today, Poland has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the European Union. Eurostat data shows that in May the unemployment rate in Poland was 3.8% compared to 3.9% in April.

The Polish Deal – positive solutions for Poles

The Polish Deal is a programme that will bring benefits to all Poles. “The Polish Deal is meant to create thousands of new jobs – this is a vital aspect of it. We are on the right track to achieve this goal”, said Prime Minister Morawiecki.

Apart from that, the Polish Deal – a development programme for the next decade – provides for a tax reform that 18 million Poles will benefit from. It includes such things as increasing the tax-free income amount to PLN 30,000 for everyone, as well as raising the income tax threshold from PLN 85,000 to PLN 120,000.

The solutions included in the Polish Deal are also favourable to entrepreneurs. The programme aims to boost investment and expansion activity. This will be possible thanks to such things as tax breaks for R&D, supporting innovative employees, robotisation and IP Box. “I can say that as part of the Polish Deal, we are also introducing a tax break for the robotisation and automation of innovative enterprises. We have the lowest taxes in Europe – that is the 5% IP BOX tax. A very low tax indeed,” said Mr Morawiecki. The Polish Deal is also about attracting capital and investors to Poland, as well as repatriating capital to Poland.

Dino Polska is a nationwide grocery store chain employing about 26,000 people, which was established in 1999. Dino Polska has recently launched its sixth distribution centre, which is located in Sieroniowice, Ujazd commune.
