The head of the Polish government visited Myszków, located in the Silesian Voivodeship, where he attended the official unveiling of a mural commemorating Captain Jerzy Kurpiński, alias “Ponury”. He was a Polish officer who had fought for the independence of our country in conspiracy. During his visit, the Prime Minister also participated in the opening of a pneumatic sports shooting range. This modern facility was created under the “Shooting range in the district” programme, which promotes access to shooting ranges in Poland.
“The war in Ukraine has reminded us that freedom is not given once and for all and that just as the generations before us had to fight for this freedom with guns in their hands, we too must remain vigilant,” stressed the head of the Polish government.
Strengthening of defence
Poland is constantly reinforcing its defence. It is done by enhancing the strength of the Polish army – increasing the number of troops and armaments. It is based on the construction of new types of weapons and their production in Poland, as well as on purchases from abroad.
An essential element in the strengthening of the Polish military forces is the Homeland Defence Act, which was signed by the President in March. The new legislation comprehensively organises regulations concerning the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland. The document is based on three main pillars – an increase in funding for the Armed Forces, the introduction of universal defence and an increase in the size of the Polish Army. The assumptions are already being implemented.
Shooting ranges in every district
It is also important to strengthen civil society. It is possible due to a programme that will provide access to a shooting range in every district. A pneumatic sports shooting range is an opportunity for the inhabitants of the Myszków district to train their shooting skills in a modern facility. However, as the head of the Polish government stressed, access to weapons in Poland must be subject to regulation.
“Our army must be strong enough so that it would never have to be tested in battle, and the whole civil society trained, also thanks to shooting ranges such as the one here, in Myszków,” said the Prime Minister.
Fight for freedom
“I also want to wish that these types of skills were used only at shooting ranges so that they never have to be used on the battlefield like they are today in Ukraine,” said the head of the Polish government.
Battles in defence of the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, which has been brutally attacked by Russia, are being fought on the territory of our eastern neighbour. Poland has been uncompromising in its support for people fighting for freedom.
Jerzy Kurpiński, alias “Ponury”, fought for the freedom of our country during the Second World War. A hero of the underground, he participated in the September Campaign and took part in actions against Wehrmacht soldiers. A mural commemorating his character was unveiled in Myszków.
“Just as ‘Ponury’ heroically fought for freedom, for the preservation of humanity at that time, we are now helping our Ukrainian neighbours in their battle for sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity,” stressed the head of the Polish government.
