Second Agricultural Summit in Warsaw
09.03.2024
Softening the provisions of the Green Deal, including in particular those concerning fallow land, or assistance to minimise the surplus of grain – these were the specifics presented by Prime Minister Donald Tusk during his second meeting with the leaders of the protesting groups.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that he had obliged the Ministry of Agriculture to present an aid programme aimed at minimising the grain surplus. The solutions are to be prepared at the ministry by Wednesday, March 15.
On that day, the European Commission's decisions on the Green Deal are also to be known. The head of the government admitted that his talks with European politicians show that it is very likely that the provisions on fallow will be relaxed. Donald Tusk announced that it is also possible that conditionality controls for smaller farms up to 10 hectares will be abolished.
The Prime Minister admitted that he would strive for the EC to introduce the possibility of applying the provisions mitigating the Green Deal retroactively, i.e. as early as 2024.
The meeting of Prime Minister Donald Tusk with representatives of the protesting farmers took place at the Centre for Social Partnership "Dialog" in Warsaw. The meeting was also attended by: Minister of Agriculture Czesław Siekierski, Deputy Ministers of Agriculture Michał Kołodziejczak and Stefan Krajewski, Minister of Development and Technology Krzysztof Hetman and Head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister Jan Grabiec.
