Senior citizens can count on the Government’s support. In 2022, we will pay out the 14th pension

17.05.2022

We care about our senior citizens. We are implementing a number of effective solutions that make their everyday lives better. These include the 13th and 14th pensions, a tax-free pension of up to PLN 2,500, and, as of 1 July, another reduction in PIT rate - down to 12 per cent. This is actual support and more money in the household budgets of all senior citizens. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki visited the municipality of Świercze in the Mazowieckie voivodeship. The Head of the Government, during a meeting at the Senior+ Club, stressed that the Government will keep on working to improve pension rates in Poland. He also added that this is the time for the state, which generates new revenues, to be able to allocate them to support those who need it most.

- The most important thing for seniors is health care and decent pensions, but also to make their autumn years as active as possible. As long as we are in power, we will strive for the best possible pensions and life for our seniors - the Prime Minister said.

Thirteenth and fourteenth pensions - that's nearly PLN 25 billion in 2022 alone

This year, additional support under the thirteenth and fourteenth pension will amount to nearly PLN 25 billion. The seniors can use these funds for food, medicines, but also for home improvements, heating or small repairs.
The thirteenth pension was paid for the first time in 2019.
●    This is an additional monetary benefit - guaranteed by law from 2020 - for all pensioners in Poland.
●    It is paid to around 9.7 million people in the amount of the lowest pension, which has been in force since 1 March of a given year.
●    This year alone, the total amount of payments was over PLN 13.1 billion.

The fourteenth pension is a form of financial support for elderly people who receive lower pensions. We paid it out for the first time back in 2021.

●    About 8 million pensioners received it in full, and about 1.2 million in part.
●    By the government's decision, the fourteenth pension will also be paid out in 2022.
●    The total cost of this benefit in 2022 will be around PLN 11.4 billion.

Supporting seniors as a part of the Polish Order and Anti-inflation Shield

From the beginning of 2022, pensioners can also benefit from the solutions of the Polish Deal - we have introduced a tax-free pension of up to PLN 2,500. This means that the average pensioner will receive up to PLN 2,000 a year more.
The reform will benefit 90 per cent of pensioners, and 2/3 of them will not have to pay the tax at all. As for pensioners and recipients of higher benefits, they only have to pay tax on the amount exceeding PLN 2,500.

We also introduced the Government Anti-Inflation Shield to protect the citizens of Poland from the effects of growing “Putinflation”. The reason behind it is the barbaric attack of Russia on the territory of Ukraine. In order to counteract rising prices, the government lowered taxes and introduced beneficial solutions, such as lower excise duty on fuel, lower VAT on gas or inflation allowance. This is actual support for all households.

Favourable changes to agricultural pensions

On 20 April 2022,  the Council of Ministers  adopted a draft bill on amending the law on social insurance for farmers. We are answering the demands of farmers and agricultural organisations. Retired farmers will not have to interrupt their agricultural activity to receive the benefit in full. Currently, if a pensioner is engaged in agricultural activity, payment of his pension is partially suspended.
