The Coal Committee - watching over the energy security of Poland and Polish families
04.01.2023
The Chancellery of the Prime Minister hosted another meeting of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki with ministers, provincial governors and company presidents on coal distribution. The main topic of the meeting was the coordination of tasks between the national and local government bodies to facilitate access to the commodity for citizens. Plans for the coming months were also discussed.
The Coal Law - an effective mechanism for distributing coal to citizens
Thanks to an additional contribution from the state budget, local governments can buy coal from importers well below the market price. The local governments that participate in coal distribution purchase the commodity at PLN 1,500 per tonne and resell it for a maximum of PLN 2,000. PLN 500 is earmarked for logistics, i.e. transport.
More than 97% of the communes that signed up for the programme had already received their first coal delivery at the end of 2022. Almost 700,000 tonnes of the ordered commodity had been delivered to them.
Regular meetings of the Coal Committee
The situation in the coal market is analysed on an ongoing basis in order to provide a rapid response to changing realities. The measures taken are focused on ensuring that all entities, including individual customers, have the necessary supply of fuel coal. The situation is constantly monitored, taking into account import and mining plans compared to the demand for the commodity.
Since July 2022, regular meetings on coal procurement and distribution have been held at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. They are participated by the representatives of state-owned companies, including the representatives of the Ministry of State Assets and other entities involved in the process. This enables efficient management.
