The Prime Minister during the National Festival entitled "Grateful to Polish Village": We are proud of the Polish countryside

25.09.2022

Farmers provide our country with food security, and their hard work contributes to the development of Poland. It is the duty of the state to provide farmers with economic and legal security, especially now when we are facing inflation caused by the Russian aggression in Ukraine. The 5th National Festival of Gratitude to the Polish Village was held in Ostrów Mazowiecka. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki is the initiator of the event that is organized since 2018. The Prime Minister met with farmers, participated in the solemn Holy Mass and presented medals of the 100th anniversary of Regaining Independence to the Rural Housewives' Clubs.

Transforming the Polish countryside

– We are implementing a great program of equal opportunities in the Polish countryside. It is my special satisfaction that together with you - sometimes stumbling - we are changing the Polish countryside for the better. These are our great government programs, such as the road development program, on which we spend several hundred percent more to make your local and regional roads look better and be safer, this is all for the Polish countryside - said the Prime Minister. As he pointed out, the government has funds to support the Polish countryside through the repair of public finances.

The head of government emphasized that the Polish countryside was no longer as dependent on European funds as it used to be. They are still around and will remain, but the government adds so much more from the Polish state budget for rural development - as long as we are in charge, these funds for the Polish countryside will continue to be transferred for further development, to the wonderful prospects of the Polish village and Polish agriculture - he continued.

We constantly strengthen and develop Polish agriculture

-  We, the government, do not hide our heads in the sand. We know how hard it is and, above all, we want one thing, we want the farmers know that we are right there with you, that we are fulfilling our obligations and that we are making sure the hard work of the Polish farmer does not go to waste, and that the Polish countryside enjoys development and success, that we should as quickly as possible get out of the troubles facing the whole of Europe today, emphasized the head of the government, thanking farmers for their hard work.

We cooperate with organizations working for agriculture - we listen carefully to the voices of farmers, we process their conclusions, comments and requests. In difficult times for the development of agriculture, we support the Polish countryside. So far:
●    We have blocked the sale of Polish land.
●    We have introduced subsidies for farmers.
●    We have introduced 0% VAT on fertilizers.
●    We have provided subsidies for agricultural fuel.
●    We have introduced agricultural retail.
●    We have reduced poverty and increased incomes in the countryside.
●    We have introduced higher agricultural pensions.

Increase in investment expenditure and agricultural pensions

Comparing the periods 2010-2015 to 2016-2021, the financial condition of rural and urban-rural communes has definitely improved. Investment expenditures increased by over 25 percent, to the level of nearly PLN 93.5 billion. This was possible thanks to additional government funds and funds made available to local governments.

Thanks to the government's actions, poverty has decreased and the rate of poverty risk in rural areas has decreased. This also means an increase in the incomes of rural residents - in the last 5 years, family incomes have grown 3 times faster than in 2011-2015. Each inhabitant of the village has on average PLN 500 more at his disposal than he had in 2015. Thanks to these activities, the distance between villages and cities has decreased.

Agricultural pensions also increased by as much as 23.3%, from PLN 1,070.28 in 2015 to PLN 1,339.04 in 2021. Additionally, pensioners receive the 13th and 14th pension payment. Moreover, Polish agriculture has become more competitive. The export of agricultural products has increased. In 2015-2021, it increased from PLN 23.9 billion to PLN 37.4 billion, that is by over 56%.
