The Prime Minister in Wołomin: we want the health service to be modern, more efficient and effective

05.09.2022

For the Government, health care is and will always be one of the top priorities. The 2023 budget foresees an increase in expenditure on health care to over 6% of the country’s GDP. In 2015, expenditure on health care amounted to approx. PLN 78 billion. In 2023, it is expected to be about PLN 165 billion. This will allow for further investments, modernisation of infrastructure, digitisation, as well as the employment of new staff and use of modern therapies. Investments in health care are being carried out on an ongoing basis. "Our duty is to make further investments in medical staff and provide salary increases in this sector as well as modern and efficient health care," said Prime Minister said during his visit to Wołomin.

An ambitious budget for 2023

We are consulting with the Polish people regarding the suitability of the draft budget law for 2023, adopted by the Council of Ministers. The government has consistently increased revenues by effectively filling gaps in public finances, taking measures such as closing the VAT gap. This enables us to implement many programs addressed to the needs of the Polish people.

In the 2023 budget, the necessary funds have been secured for the continuation of the existing priority actions, as well as for the implementation of new ones including:

  • social programmes,
  • valorisation of pensions and the 13th pension,
  • defence measures
  • health care
  • road construction and repairs.

Russian aggression against Ukraine, rising raw materials prices as well as the COVID-19 pandemic are having a negative impact on the state of the economy in many countries around the world. In this difficult time, the Government is supporting the Polish people by cutting taxes or the implementing its Anti-Inflation Shield. Despite this worldwide crisis, the Polish economy is in a stable condition. We anticipate that, in 2023, U.S. state budget revenues will amount to approx. PLN 604.4 billion, an increase of almost 110% compared to 2015.

Expansion of Wołomin District Hospital

The Hospital of Our Lady of Perpetual Aid in Wołomin has long been an important element of the health care system in Mazovia. It also supports patients from outside the county of Wołomin in providing medical care. Thanks to the support of the government, the facility will be expanded. The co-financing is worth over PLN 37.6 million, which is over 50% of the cost of the investment.

”Wołomin Hospital will receive four additional rooms, medical devices and the best equipment possible”, said the Head of the Government.

The expansion of the facility began in December 2020. As part of investment in the Hospital, outpatient clinics, night medical assistance, a rehabilitation facility and hospital administration and other new facilities will be built. The expansion programme also includes a new Emergency Department, operating theatre, diagnostic laboratories and doctor's offices.

A Comprehensive Health Care Improvement Program

The Prime Minister pointed out that the government wanted to invest in hospitals instead of liquidating them. Health is the most important thing. Therefore, the government is constantly striving to improve the work of the health service. However, without increased funding, this will certainly not be possible. Therefore, the budget for 2023 provides for an increase in expenditure on financing health care to over 6 percent.

”It is all thanks to the filling gaps in public finances. When we came to power, spending on health care amounted to about PLN 77 billion; next year, the budget is for over PLN 165 billion, which is twice as much. This is more than 6% of the country’s GDP”, the Prime Minister pointed out.

In addition to the implemented long-term investment programmes or the elimination of limits to specialist activities, this is a very important step in continuing to improve the work of the Polish health service. The additional money will be used for:

  • investments
  • modernisation of infrastructure
  • digitisation
  • employment of new staff and use of modern therapies
  • increased salaries for medical staff.

All patients will benefit from these measures; they will have wider access to modern, more efficient and effective healthcare.
