11.06.2022

In June 1982, Fighting Solidarity, an anti-communist underground organisation, was founded by Kornel Morawiecki in Wrocław. The organisation's aim was to achieve the independence of the Republic of Poland. During the ceremony, people who fought against the communist system in pursuit of this goal were honoured with the Cross of Freedom and Solidarity.

The Polish Prime Minister also referred to other objectives pursued by Fighting Solidarity. These included solidarity, or justice, and common interests among the countries that surround us. – Let us realise how all these ideas are relevant today, the Prime Minister pointed out.

A message to Europe

The war in Ukraine is a decisive moment in the history of the world. The Polish Prime Minister pointed out that the message to the people of the nations of Eastern Europe, which was printed in the Biuletyn Dolnośląski, also in Russian and Belarusian, is still valid. Today it is the nations of Eastern Europe that are fighting for freedom, solidarity, normality, and the possibility to live in a free country. At the same time, they are also fighting for our freedom, sovereignty and independence.

– I believe that Ukraine's struggle today is a kind of continuation of the struggle of Fighting Solidarity, the message of the first congress of the Independent Self-Governing Trade Union "Solidarity" to the nations of Eastern Europe, said the Prime Minister of Poland.

People of Solidarity

That is why, according to the Prime Minister, those involved in the activities of Fighting Solidarity would travel to today's times and become involved in supporting Ukraine. – We would fight for Ukraine's freedom, knowing that Russia's brutal, barbaric onslaught poses a dire threat, not least to Poland's freedom, pointed out the Polish Prime Minister. The underground organisation brought out the best in people who were involved in its activities. The Cross of Freedom and Solidarity is awarded to those who have contributed to regaining the independence of our country. The Prime Minister expressed his thanks to all those who were part of the Fighting Solidarity.

– You are the great heroes of our present freedom.
