The whole of Poland stands in solidarity with Ukraine

23.02.2023

On the morning of 24 February 2022, Russia launched an armed aggression against Ukraine. Russian troops began a massive attack on Ukrainian towns and villages. The aggressor's troops are killing civilians, including children and women, in a barbaric manner. This Friday will mark one year since these tragic events. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki attended the “In Solidarity with Ukraine” concert at the Grand Theatre - National Opera, which commemorates the anniversary of Russia's attack on Ukraine.

Polish solidarity

A year ago Russian bombs fell on Ukraine. Ukrainian cities are still being destroyed and Russian soldiers are carrying out savage executions of innocent people. Russia has once again shown its barbaric nature. Millions of Ukrainians have been forced to leave their country. In the face of such a great tragedy, the Poles opened their hearts and extended a helping hand.

Poland has a great tradition of showing solidarity. If Ukraine had not received help, Russia could have taken advantage of this to make further conquests. Since the very beginning of the aggression against our eastern neighbour, we have been helping not only with humanitarian but also with military aid.

Free Ukraine means free Poland and a safe Europe

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki is holding numerous meetings and talks with Western politicians to build unity against Russian aggression in Ukraine. Last week, the head of the Polish government at the Munich Security Conference discussed the issue with, among others, The Chairman of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, President of Kurdistan Region Nechervan Idris Barzani, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko. This week, the Prime Minister met with Prime Minister of the Italian Republic Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Petr Fiala, President of Hungary Katalin Novák and US President Joe Biden, who flew to Poland. Our diplomatic offensive continues.

On Tuesday, at the Kubicki Arcades in Warsaw, the US President addressed the Poles directly, thanking us for our generosity and hospitality. In his speech, he emphasised what Poland has been saying for a long time - only continued support for Ukraine will ensure security in our region. Ukraine must win this war - this is the way to restore peace and security in this part of the world.
