We are building a Poland of equal opportunities, says PM Morawiecki during visit to Małopolska Province

18.06.2022

The government is aware of the crucial nature of local development. This is why it has decided to grant further funding to Poland's villages, towns and cities. Recent days saw Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki attend the opening of a newly renovated bridge over the Dunajec River in Ostrów. More than PLN 19 million was allocated for the second, final stage of this investment project. During his visit to the Małopolskie Province, the Prime Minister also met with members of the Rector Committee of the Pedagogical University of Kraków. The talks with the Committee focused on a planned investment project, which is set to receive co-financing amounting to nearly 100% of its total cost.

Taking special care of Poland's regions at a local level

The COVID-19 pandemic and Russia's aggression against Ukraine have sparked a crisis that is now being faced by the entire world. In this difficult time, the government supports local authorities across Poland by granting them additional funding, which enables them to implement investment projects — a driving force of our economy and a turning point on the way towards sustainable development.

"Should bridges and roads only connect major cities? Or is it precisely the Poland that lies between these major cities, between the motorways and expressways, that we should particularly care about?", said Prime Minister Morawiecki.

The Prime Minister also expressed confidence that the vast majority of Poles recognise the government's efforts in terms of repairing, modernising and building roads that had previously been left underinvested.

"Poland must be a Poland of equal opportunities, and to level the playing field, there must be a commitment to that end on the part of the state", he concluded.

Ostrów bridge investment project

The renovation was carried out with considerable financial support from the government — PLN 4 million was transferred from the state budget reserve for the first stage of the project, and more than PLN 19 million was transferred from the Government Road Construction Fund for the second. The Fund’s goal is to expedite the creation of safe and modern road infrastructure at the local level.  This is a crucial element in the proper functioning and development of the economy, which will contribute to improving the standard of living of Polish citizens.

The Ostrów bridge was built back in 1971. Since it was becoming increasingly loaded, its technical condition continued to deteriorate despite regular renovation efforts. Out of concern for user safety, it was decided that a comprehensive renovation should be carried out.

New teaching and conference centre to feature multi-station shooting range

Yet another investment project with government co-financing will be implemented in Kraków. The facility is planned to meet Olympic requirements and be ready in time to host the 2023 European Games, for which the infrastructure preparation is already commencing. The inclusion of a shooting range along with the auxiliary facilities is part of the Ministry of Defence's ongoing efforts to change the approach to defence tasks which, in general terms, shifts the focus to the general development of military skills — particularly among young people. By now, 48 of Poland's 300 counties have already gained shooting ranges as part of the "County Shooting Range" programme.

The Pedagogical University of Kraków has applied for funding for the investment project in question. The amount requested represents almost 100% of the project's cost.
