We must guarantee the food security of the entire European Union

At the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Prime Minister Donald Tusk met with Roberta Metsola, the President of the European Parliament. The discussion revolved around preparations for the EU parliamentary elections and the future of the EU. Additionally, the head of the Polish government and the President of the European Parliament deliberated on the situation of Polish agriculture within the framework of European Union food security.
Food security as an integral component of the overall security of the entire EU
Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized during a press conference the imperative for everyone to prioritize food security, especially in the broader context of ensuring the security of the entire EU. This encompasses considerations regarding trade liberalization with Ukraine and various aspects of the Green Deal.
We deliberated on the specific situation of Polish agriculture. I am counting on the understanding of the President of the European Parliament. It is crucial that Polish farmers are assured that the forthcoming solutions are designed to be supportive and not detrimental to their interests – affirmed the Prime Minister.
According to the head of the Polish government, there are no simple solutions and situations in European politics today.
In this and the upcoming term of the European Parliament, we must look after the interests of agricultural producers in Europe and Poland more effectively. Everyone is entitled to full respect, recognition, and understanding of their own interests within Europe – stressed Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Good cooperation with the European Parliament
Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized his longstanding collaboration with Roberta Metsola, during which he consistently relied on her support.
Amidst the myriad of emotions currently gripping the European Union, whether related to Ukraine, trade liberalization, farmers' protests, rule of law concerns, or migration, I have always found in the President a steadfast ally, characterized by full understanding and excellent cooperation – remarked the Prime Minister.
Roberta Metsola's presence in Poland is a significant element in the pro-frequency campaign for the European Parliament.
In Poland, voter turnout in elections has reached record levels, both on October 15 and during the recent European Parliamentary elections. This presents an excellent opportunity to underscore the significance of the European Parliament elections – stressed Donald Tusk.
Poland returns to the heart of Europe
The President of the European Parliament expressed her delight at visiting Poland, especially as the country celebrates the 20th anniversary of its accession to the European Union.
I am very pleased to see Poland reclaiming its central position within Europe and emerging as a leader – stated Roberta Metsola following her meeting with Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
She added that her visits to EU states are aimed at raising awareness of this year's European Parliamentary elections, particularly focusing on persuading young people to vote.
We know that everything can change after this election, but everything is also in our hands – Roberta Metsola argued.
The President of the European Parliament also stressed that we must be united and unequivocally condemn Russian aggression against Ukraine.
We know that we can offer support to Ukraine while also safeguarding our internal markets – Roberta Metsola assured.
The President of the European Parliament is currently visiting Poland at the invitation of Speaker of the Senate Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska. The visit is related to the European Parliament elections, which will be held between 6 and 9 June 2024.
