We support local governments! PLN 14 billion will go to villages, towns and cities
02.08.2023
Since 2015, we have introduced changes in our policy related to local governments. We support investments in villages, municipalities, small and large cities. We are providing record funds from the state budget for the development of local Poland. In 2023, local government units will receive extra founds in the amount of PLN 14 billion for their purposes. This would not be possible without tightening the tax system and repairing public finances. Thanks to numerous government programmes, investments beneficial to people are being implemented all over Poland: renovation of roads, construction of new bicycle paths, modern schools and sports halls, renovation of hospitals and clinics.
PLN 14 billion for local governments later this year
We care about close cooperation between the government and local governments. We want villages, municipalities and towns across Poland to develop dynamically. For the past eight years, local governments have been receiving record funding from the state budget. The funding goes to all local government units - both smaller and larger ones.
A total of extra PLN 14 billion will go to local governments later this year. This is a supplement to the general subsidy. Municipalities, districts and cities will decide what they will spend the money on. Local government units can use the funds for current expenses or further investments for their residents.
- For local governments, current expenses are very important. That is why, after the recent changes, we have introduced ned changes in the Budget Act - said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
Government programmes for local Poland
The government strives for the sustainable development of the whole country, regardless of the political views of local authorities. We support the ideas of local authorities of villages, municipalities, cities and towns for new investments in the region that meet the needs of the residents.
- We will do everything to attract new entrepreneurs, new businesses, to create jobs so that emploees, residents could earn decent salaries. This is the essence of our policy - sustainable development, equal opportunities, fair and solidarity-based development - stressed the head of government.
We have introduced a number of government programmes to make the life of local Poland better.
Key government programmes that support local governemts:
Government Strategic Investment Programme
- Non-repayable co-financing for investments implemented by municipalities, counties, cities, voivodeships and their associations throughout the country.
- So far, there have been five editions of the programme, under which funding has been awarded to places where the liquidated state-owned agricultural enterprises (PGR) operated, inter alia. The last two editions were intended for the development of industrial zones and Polish health resorts.
- A total of PLN 63.4 billion has already been allocated to the programme.
Government Road Construction Fund
- Since 2019, we have completed investments of more than 18,000 km, for a total amount of nearly PLN 13 billion. With the support allocated for 2023, this amount will reach PLN 15.3 billion.
Government Local Investment Fund
- Those are funds for municipalities, districts and cities throughout Poland for investments beneficial to local residents - including the construction of nurseries, nursery schools or roads.
- More than PLN 13.2 billion has been allocated for that purpose.
Government Programme for Reconstruction of Monuments
- Those are additional funds allocated to the renovation or restoration of monuments throughout Poland. In this way, we restore the comfort of life of residents for whom monuments are often public buildings.
