Discontinuation of issuing the certificates of temporary protection

09.03.2026

Starting from 5 March 2026, the Head of the Office for Foreigners no longer issues the certificates of temporary protection. The certificates issued before 5 March 2026 shall remain valid by 4 March 2027, unless a foreigner being the holder of this certificate, received PESEL number with UKR status or there are grounds to invalidate this certificate.

Information

Having regard to discontinuation of issuing the certificates of temporary protection by the Head of the Office for Foreigners, we kindly inform that the persons, whose certificate issued before 5 March 2026 was damaged or lost, should apply for granting PESEL number with UKR status to any communal authority at the territory of Poland in order to obtain the new document confirming the entitlements of the temporary protection beneficiary.

Legal basis: Article 110a of the Act of 13 June 2003 on granting protection to foreigners in the territory of the Republic of Poland (uniform text in Journal of Laws of 2025, item 223, as amended), Article 20(1) of the Act of 23 June 2026 on phasing out the solutions under the Act on assistance to Ukrainian citizens in connection with the armed conflict on the territory of the country and amending certain other acts (Journal of Laws of 2026, item 203).
