“North Macedonia deserves green light to open negotiations to join the European Union based on the implemented reforms and the good neighbourly relations it pursues. We expect this decision from the European Council,” said Deputy Minister Szynkowski vel Sęk during his visit to North Macedonia, during which he summarised Polish presidency of the Berlin Process and took part in political consultations with North Macedonia’s representatives.

On Monday, 9 December, the Polish foreign minister will participate in a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels.

On Friday, 6 December, the Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel visited the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Oswiecim to mark the 10th anniversary of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation. It was Angela Merkel’s first visit to the former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp after her 14 years in office and the third visit of an incumbent head of government.

“We want this visit to focus on the economic aspects of our cooperation and to lead to the opening of new chapters in our bilateral agenda,” said the MFA undersecretary of state during a meeting with his Japanese counterpart, Norihiro Nakayama.

Held in Prague on 2 December, the meeting is organised as part of the Czech presidency of the Visegrad Group (V4).

Heads of the V4 diplomacies used the working meeting in Prague to hold informal talks.

“Unstable Europe, disturbed transatlantic relations, emotional roller coaster and frustration in the East, as well as Russia’s aggressive policy shape the environment in which we pursue our eastern policy. The main objective of Poland’s foreign policy is therefore national security, regional cooperation, including collaboration within the Eastern Partnership, as well as bilateral relations with Eastern European countries,” Undersecretary of State at the Polish MFA Marcin Przydacz said while launching Polish Eastern Policy 2019 conference.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki presented new deputy foreign ministers with their nominations.
