Supporting civil society in Belarus
In 2024, due to a difficult political situation in Belarus and the lack of respect for civil liberties and human rights, Poland continued to support Belarusian civil society. Activities focused on two areas: “Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions” and “Equal Opportunity – Education.”
In total, several dozen projects were carried out, targeting victims of repression, independent media and journalists, as well as students and academics from Belarus.
The funds were allocated, among other purposes, to cover the costs of education and scholarships for Belarusian students continuing their studies at Polish universities.
An important element of the assistance activities was cooperation with organisations and social activists via the Solidarity Fund PL. The cooperation included measures to ensure observance of human rights and democratic principles, ensure access to reliable information, and build civil society.
