Ethiopia

Ethiopia was added to the list of priority recipients of Poland’s Official Development Assistance in 2004.

Our activities focus on the improvement of the quality of health care, including for mothers and children, and access to high-quality schooling at all levels of education. We also support the local private sector and the development of entrepreneurship, including the creation of new jobs.

Thanks to the Stefan Banach Scholarship Programme (the Ignacy Łukasiewicz Scholarship Programme until 2020), Ethiopian students can study in Poland. Intended for foreign students, including those from African countries, the programme is supervised by the National Agency for Academic Exchange.

The limited scope of cooperation in recent years results from the unstable internal situation in Ethiopia, caused by conflicts between ethnic groups and mass movements of the population. Almost three million people have been internally displaced as a result of conflicts throughout the country. Along with the improvement of the security situation, it will be possible for Poland to increase its involvement in this country.
