Exhibition of the 2017 and 2019 “Lens on Development” contest photos

06.11.2020

This is an online exhibition of the photos awarded in the “Lens on Development” contest organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Geographic Polska in its 2017 and 2019 editions. The contest has been organised biennially since 2011.

Besides their artistic appeal, the awarded photos also capture moments in people’s lives as they struggle with their problems and challenges in different parts of the world. We care about promoting the idea of Polish Aid and raising awareness of Polish society about problems of the Global South, and spreading the knowledge about the Sustainable Development Goals.

Some of the photos were taken in countries with a Polish Aid presence, a programme which is our response to those challenges. All works carry an emotional charge and artistic value which bring us particularly close to the people pictured.

In the 2017 edition, there were three categories: Democracy and Human Rights in Development, Education and Entrepreneurship as Keys to Better Lives, and Human Impact on the Environment. The five categories of the 2019 contest referred to the Sustainable Development Goals: People, Peace, Prosperity, Planet, and Partnership.

Several thousand photos were sent in, of which the jury selected more than a dozen and awarded them prizes, honourable mentions and a grand prize (in the 2017 edition).

We invite you to see the presentation.
