Poland provides Moldovan firefighters with firefighting and personal protective equipment

The headquarters of the Training Centre of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Moldova (IGSU) in Răzeni hosted on 28 November 2023 a handover ceremony of the firefighting and personal protective equipment purchased under the project “Support to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations - Stage II”.

The main objective of the project is to develop national and regional crisis management systems and increase the operational capabilities of the Moldovan units. The modular project (2022-2023) is implemented for the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova. Its aim is to improve the training capabilities of the only Fire Service Training Center in the country by training and providing instructors with dedicated equipment, as well as developing training and teaching resources. The current activities intend to standardize rescue training throughout Moldova.

A vital element of the project in 2022 was the delivery of a modern multi-module rescue mock building, that lets the acquired theoretical knowledge to be systematically reinforced with practical skills. The structure was built out of five sea containers placed in a shape imitating a building with staircases, doors, windows, a well and a smoke generator. A vocational training program was developed and multi-stage training for IGSU instructors was carried out as part of the project (more here).

The head of IGSU Col. Alexandru Oprea, the Rector-Commandant of the Fire Academy Brig. Dr. Eng. Mariusz Feltynowski and Minister Counselor of the Embassy of Poland in Chisinau Grzegorz Opaliński joined the event.
