Mobile clinics, neonatology, and first aid in conflict zones are just some of the medical projects supported by Polish Aid. World Health Day is celebrated on 7 April, marking the anniversary of the establishment of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1950.

In 2025, according to preliminary data, the Polish Aid funding for development and humanitarian projects in the field of health amounted to approximately PLN 34.3 million.

Projects under the call for proposals procedure

PLN 30.7 million was allocated to projects carried out by non-governmental organisations selected through the calls for proposals. The projects/initiatives were thematically and geographically diverse, focusing on Polish Aid priority countries. In Ukraine, projects included psychological support as well as efforts to strengthen volunteer rescue services and neonatal care. In Palestine, Polish Aid financed, among others, mobile clinics run by the Polish Humanitarian Action, which reached several thousand patients in the West Bank, as well as medical consultations for over 5,000 patients provided by Caritas. In Syria, the Polish Centre for International Aid delivered e.g. dialysis equipment for people affected by the conflict in Damascus and Rif Dimashq.

Projects carried out by Polish missions abroad

As many as 46 projects with a total value of PLN 2.15 million were implemented by Poland’s missions abroad in cooperation with local partners. The initiatives focused on the most urgent health needs of local communities. For example, in Tanzania basic medical equipment was delivered to two hospitals and an emergency center, which improved health care for over 3,000 patients in emergency wards. In Kovačica, Serbia, the Embassy of Poland in Belgrade, with support from Polish Aid, financed the purchase of diagnostic equipment for detecting cervical cancer. The equipment will serve over 10,000 women living in the municipality.

Contributions to international organisations

In 2025, Poland continued its financial support for aid activities carried out by United Nations agencies in the field of public health, allocating PLN 1.4 million for this purpose. The primary focus of these efforts was Ukraine. A contribution of PLN 500,000 was made to the World Health Organization (WHO) for the Contingency Fund for Emergencies, including operations in Ukraine. Poland also made contributions to the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) in the amount of PLN 500,000, and to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in the amount of PLN 450,000 for a programme to combat obstetric fistula.
