09.02.2021

After two years of cooperation, the Centre for Education Development, commissioned by the Polish Ministry of National Education, has completed a development project for Georgia.

Polish report on inclusive education in Georgia

The initiative, implemented with the participation of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, aimed to support systemic changes for the social inclusion of children and young people with special needs. The project also involved activities in building public awareness about this group of students.

The project involved 28 leaders – members of a mobile school support team appointed by the Georgian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport. Training courses and a study visit to Poland were organised as part of the project. The participating leaders learned about the Polish education system and the range of activities available to support special needs students. They also became familiar with identifying the needs of students with mental disorders and illnesses and developmental disabilities. They learned how to plan support for such students in an inclusive institution. They also participated in training workshops aimed at preparing them for their role as trainers in Georgia.

A vital element of the project was also the preparation of the guidelines for training and public campaigns aimed at promoting the inclusion of students with special needs in the general education system in Georgia. Parents of students with special needs were also invited to participate in this initiative.

Over two years of the project, more than 80 schools with more than 1000 students with special educational needs have been supported.
