Support to the Georgian Rescue Training Centre

29.01.2021

In cooperation with the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, the Main School of Fire Service in Warsaw implemented a two-year project from Polish Aid funds, which significantly contributed to the development of the system of education of rescue services in Georgia.

Support to the Georgian Rescue Training Centre

The practical training programme for fire-fighters was developed with the support of Polish experts, and based on this training classes are now carried out at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. The training programme is the first of its kind to be developed and implemented in Georgia and will undoubtedly make the rescue education process more dynamic. Moreover, the training process is supported by the “Guidelines for the rescue service training process with the use of a multi-container training simulator”, which was developed within the project framework.

As part of the project, the first multi-module training simulator for real-scale practical training was constructed at the Training Centre of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. The training simulator consists of 5 shipping containers arranged in a form imitating a building with a staircase, doors, windows, chemical installation, a well and an installation for generating and spreading smoke inside. Also, equipment was purchased and donated to increase the safety level of the training courses (e.g. special firefighter uniforms for instructors, boots, gloves, firefighter helmets and a thermal imaging camera), as well as specialist rescue equipment used both in the training process and rescue actions (e.g. breathing apparatuses together with a static test device, escape hoods, air compressor, demolition equipment, axial fans, communications equipment, motor pump, water-foam cannons, AC and flammable gas detectors).

Polish experts have been training instructors using this training simulator for two years. During the training, knowledge and practical skills were taught and revised. Due to pandemic constraints, the training courses in 2020 were delivered online.

The investments made and the substantive support provided will enable the instructional staff of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia to independently raise the level of professional qualifications of fire-fighters in Georgia professionally.

Project No. 214/2019/ADM2019/M (Modules 2019, 2020) entitled “Georgian Rescue Training Centre” implemented by the Main School of Fire Service in Warsaw, Project value: module I – PLN 750,000, module II – PLN 400,000.
