The challenges related to the development cooperation discussed in Warsaw

09.04.2025

The EU Directors-General for Development and Humanitarian Aid met in Warsaw on 8-9 April 2025. Among the main topics were the challenges associated with development cooperation in the context of supporting fragile countries and building resilience, as well as the implementation of the Global Gateway strategy.

An important element of the discussion was the issue of building international partnerships and strengthening the EU's position on the international arena through development cooperation.

The subject of the discussion was in line with the priority of the Polish presidency in the development area, namely building the resilience of countries and societies. It was also organised in the context of the changing international environment in relation to development issues and in connection with preparations for the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, which will be held from 30 June to 3 July 2025 in Seville.

"The changing global political, social and economic landscapes call for bold steps by the EU to demonstrate strong international position and forward-looking approach towards the implementation of the SDGs," said Director of the Development Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Aleksandra Piątkowska.

During working discussions, the delegates talked, among other things, about better use of innovative financing mechanisms, digital tools and the involvement of a wide range of entities in providing aid, including the private sector through the Global Gateway strategy.

The formula of combining a meeting of Directors-General for Humanitarian Aid and Directors-General for Development, proposed by the Polish presidency, allowed key aspects of the undertaken actions to be discussed from two complementary perspectives.
