Changes in the Science Ministry: Marcin Kulasek is a new Minister of Science and Higher Education

On January 17, 2025, the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda appointed Marcin Kulasek as the Minister of Science and Higher Education.

Marcin Kulasek (born April 4, 1976) is a graduate of the Faculty of Food Science at the University of Warmia and Mazury (UWM) in Olsztyn where he was also awarded a doctoratal degree in food and nutrition technology. He also completed postgraduate studies in EU funds management at UWM in Olsztyn and postgraduate studies in security and crisis management at the Military College at the Naval Academy in Gdynia.

Marcin Kulasek has for years combined activities for the development of science and higher education with work in administration and local government activities. Among other things, he worked as an assistant to the governor of Warmia and Mazury and at the Agency for Restructuring and Modernization of Agriculture. In 2014, he won a seat as an alderman of the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Province Assembly, and since 2016 he has served as secretary general of what is now the New Left [Pol: Nowa Lewica] and before that the Democratic Left Alliance [Pol: Sojusz Lewicy Demokratycznej].

In the 2019 parliamentary elections, he won a seat as a member of the Polish Parliament. In the ninth term of the Sejm, he was a member of the Committee on Education, Science and Youth, a chairman of the Standing Subcommittee on Science and Higher Education and a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development. He also served as vice-chairman of the National Defense Commission, worked in the subcommittee that drafted the Homeland Defense Act, and dealt with the modernization of the armed forces.

In the elections held on October 15, 2023, he won a parliamentary seat again.

on December 18, 2023, he was appointed Secretary of State at the Ministry of State Assets.

On January 17, 2025, he took over the position of the Minister of Science and Higher Education.
