Minister Dariusz Wieczorek took part in a ceremony to hand over the presidency of the 4EU+ European University Alliance to Warsaw University. The initiative is a significant step forward in the drive to strengthen international cooperation in the fields of higher education and science. The Alliance is a platform that allows the exchange of knowledge and experience between eight leading universities in Europe.

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education hosted a meeting between Minister Dariusz Wieczorek and the President of the European Research Council, Prof. Maria Leptin. Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Science, Maria Mrówczyńska, also participated in the discussion.

Warsaw for a few days became the center of an international student debate on the future of higher education. Minister of Science Dariusz Wieczorek solemnly inaugurated the 48th edition of the European Students’ Convention. One of the most important events in the calendar of European student organizations attracted representatives of university self-governments from 40 member countries. Poland for the first time has the honor of serving as host of this prestigious meeting.

Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education Maria Mrówczyńska represented Poland in Budapest at an informal meeting of the EU Competitiveness Council. The meeting discussed issues including scientific research and its impact on the competitiveness of the European Union.

A unique meeting was held at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Minister Dariusz Wieczorek personally congratulated Mikołaj Wolanin – one of the ten finalists of the prestigious Global Student Prize competition. During the conversation, the head of the ministry expressed his appreciation for the impressive achievements of the young scientist and wished him success in his further academic and professional career.

The 38th International Championship of Mathematical and Logical Games belonged to the Poles. Polish enthusiasts of the queen of sciences have won a dozen medals for the second year in a row.

The 35th International Geographical Congress is in session in Dublin. At the meeting held on August 26, new authorities of this organization were elected. Marek Więckowski, PhD – professor at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the Polish Academy of Sciences – was appointed vice-president of the International Geographical Union.

Minister Dariusz Wieczorek paid an official visit to Brussels. While there, he met with the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the EU Piotr Serafin as well as representatives of the Polish science and innovation sector from the National Center for Research and Development and the Office of Science Promotion “PolSCA” of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The delegation also included: Director-General of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education Diana Matusik and the Minister’s Plenipotentiary for European Affairs and the Polish Presidency of the EU Council Prof. Patrycja Matusz.

Katarzyna Malinowska, PhD, director of the Center for Space Studies at Kozminski University, has been honored with the prestigious Rosalind Franklin Society 2023 award for outstanding scientific achievements in the field of space law.

Minister Dariusz Wieczorek visited Rzeszów University of Technology as part of regular meetings with university authorities and students throughout Poland. The main purpose of the visits is to identify the needs, problems and challenges of the academic community. It is also an element which will be subject to consultations before planned changes to the Act on Higher Education.
