Increasing the level of personal safety at JSW KWK "Pniówek" in Pawłowice by modernizing the dispatch center of the traffic dispatcher systems

The article presents innovative technical solutions implemented at the JSW S.A. KWK "Pniówek" mining plant in Pawłowice in the scope of modernization of the plant dispatch room and gasometric dispatcher systems together with uninterruptible power supply. The solutions used in the field of security systems, data visualization, IT infrastructure, work ergonomics and ensuring appropriate environmental parameters of the rooms both for the devices installed there and for the comfort of dispatchers were described. The role of the State Mining Authority was shown in the process of issuing permits for putting into operation basic mining plant facilities, such as dispatch rooms. Information was presented on the changes that took place between January 2023 and August 2025 in dispatch rooms under the supervision of the State Mining Authority, which contribute to improving safety, increasing operational reliability, reducing operating costs and optimizing human resources management.

The use of the georadar method in detecting karst formations and examining the structure of the deposit on the example of the Działoszyn Mining Plant

The Działoszyn Mining Plant exploits Oxford limestone from the Wieluń Upland intended for cement production. Limestone deposits are characterized by high lithological variability. Numerous karst formations filled with Cenozoic sediments generate complications during exploitation, and rock voids pose a threat to workers and machines, with the greatest risk associated with rock voids occurring in the water-logged part of the deposit. In order to more accurately identify the geological structure and detect rock voids, the plant's geological services use the ground-penetrating radar (GPR) method. At the Działoszyn Mining Plant, a Mala georadar with a 250 MHz antenna is used for GPR research. Thanks to the tests carried out in the foreground presented in the article, voids were revealed, and their elimination contributed to improving the safety and quality of blasting works. This is important due to the formation of fissure and karst networks that make blasting operations difficult. Tests can be performed in 2D and 3D. The 3D method is used to thoroughly investigate the foreground structure and detect rock voids. First, the terrain and measurement grid are prepared, then the appropriate equipment parameters are selected. The choice of parameters depends on the terrain conditions and structures we want to examine. The measurements allow us to determine the thickness of the overburden, the homogeneity of the deposit and the presence of disturbances (karst, voids). During field research, it is possible to analyze the medium using echograms. More detailed analysis is performed using a computer program using numerous filters. Performing a dense grid of parallel measurements allows for capturing the smallest disturbances over a large area. These data are re-analyzed in a computer program on three levels.
The GPR method is used to recognize not only the geological structure in prospective areas, but also newly developed parts of the deposit. GPR surveys make it possible to determine the suitability of a given part of the deposit, better plan the directions of exploitation and increase production efficiency. The use of the GPR method contributed to improved safety and streamlined the operation and production planning process at the Działoszyn Mining Plant.

Monitoring the fire protection network on the example of the "Borynia-Zofiówka" Coal Mine Zofiówka Division

The aim of the article is to present how it is possible to monitor the parameters of an underground firefighting pipeline network using SCADA type of software, based on the HADES data visualization program. The authors begin the article by describing the water supply of the coal mine, and then demonstrate that the main impulse for creating a remote monitoring system for the firefighing network was the need to maintain stable parameters in the pipelines, as required by mining legislation. The basis for the expansion of the network was
the fully monitored PREREST reduction station with remote control capabilities, installed at level 705 meters. The firefighting network monitoring system has been systematically expanded through the installation of additional converters and flowmeters, and their communication via fiber optics with the HADES data visualization program, whose analytical capabilities have also been discussed. Monitoring the parameters of the firefighting network using the HADES program has allowed for: optimization of water supply utilization, improvement of parameter stabilization in these pipelines, faster localization of emergency situations in the network, and thus minimization of costs. The collected data will also be very helpful for further expansion of the network.

Undertaking activities in the field of mining minerals from deposits using the open-pit method and environmental impact assessment

The article presents selected issues related to the obligations related to preparing an environmental impact assessment, focusing in particular on activities involving the extraction of minerals from deposits using the open-pit method. Therefore, the article presents the projects within the scope of the activity in question which require obtaining a decision on environmental conditions, defines the essence of conducting an environmental impact assessment, including in relation to projects which may always have a significant impact on the environment and projects which may potentially have a significant impact on the environment, as well as projects which may affect a Natura 2000 area. It indicates the actions taken by public administration bodies as part of conducting an environmental impact assessment. Regardless of the above, the article also addresses the issue of preparing an environmental impact report and a project information sheet, pointing out that neither of these concepts have been defined by the legislator. Due to the subject matter of the article, it was also necessary to indicate cases in which the entrepreneur was exempted from the obligation to obtain a decision on environmental conditions in the event of a change in the concession.
