We will assist in building a modern system in Ukraine for financing environmental protection and energy transition, and will cooperate on chemical safety. Polish companies involved in the GreenEvo project, which develop innovative green technologies, also presented their work at the 'Ukraine Recovery Conference', an international conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine held in Gdańsk. Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska and Deputy Minister Urszula Zielińska attended this event.

In just half a year, the nationwide deposit-refund system has already collected 1.6 billion packaging items, demonstrating that it is effectively tidying up public spaces and strengthening environmental protection. There are now 62,000 return points operating across the country, and the network continues to grow. The system is now preparing for the summer peak by expanding its infrastructure in tourist regions and developing digital deposit refunds to make using the system even easier.

Poland needs decisive and effective measures to protect it from the effects of fires, droughts, flooding and other extreme weather events. In response to these challenges, the Ministry of Climate and Environment is implementing a package of nine initiatives to strengthen the country's climate security. They form a coherent strategy of reforms and investments, increasing Poland's resilience to climate change whilst supporting the development of a modern and sustainable water management system. One of the elements is the call for applications under the 'Micro-retention' programme, launched on 22 June, in which owners of single-family houses can receive up to PLN 8,000 in funding for the collection and use of rainwater. The Minister of Climate and Environment, Paulina Hennig-Kloska, and Deputy Minister Urszula Zielińska discussed the details during a press conference held on 24 June 2026 in Warsaw.

The National Recovery and Resilience Plan provided the opportunity to secure funding totalling PLN 100 million for a comprehensive assessment of the state of the environment and the preparation of a draft plan to improve environmental conditions in large-scale degraded areas. Anita Sowińska, Deputy Minister of Climate and the Environment, attended the meeting in Zgierz on 24 June 2026 to review the results of the work conducted to date.

The Government has adopted draft legislation designed to bring Polish law into line with CJEU rulings and ensure that citizens have a genuine say in forest management. A key change is the introduction of the possibility to challenge forest management plans (FMP) in court on grounds of their legality. The amendment strengthens the active participation of the public, civil society organisations and local government bodies in shaping these documents.

The government has adopted a draft amendment to the Environmental Protection Act. It introduces the possibility for voivodship authorities to simplify the updating of current air quality programmes. It also enables residents and civil society organisations to effectively challenge air quality programmes, their updates and short-term action plans. It also provides for the possibility of lodging complaints against the inaction of the authorities responsible for adopting them.

On Poland's initiative, a joint letter was drafted by twelve EU Member States (Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Poland) calling on the European Commission to strengthen the Modernisation Fund after 2030 in the context of the forthcoming changes to the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).

After years of preparation, Poland has fulfilled its commitment to UNESCO, and the protection of the Białowieża Forest has been placed on a new, sustainable footing. On 19 June, the Minister of Climate and Environment, Paulina Hennig-Kloska, signed the Management Plan for the Białowieża Forest World Heritage Site, which had previously been approved by the World Heritage Centre of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). This document sets out the guidelines for the conservation of this unique area for the next 25 years.

On 17 June 2026, Krzysztof Bolesta, State Secretary at the Ministry of Climate and Environment, met with Daniel Westlén, State Secretary at the Ministry of Climate and Enterprise of the Kingdom of Sweden. Their talks focused on the development of green technologies, supporting environmental innovation and building the competitiveness of European industry in the context of the energy transition.

On 12 June 2026, a regulation amending the provisions concerning areas where underground carbon dioxide storage complexes may be located was published in the Journal of Laws. The amended regulations allow to conduct works on the prospecting and exploration of potential sites for underground carbon dioxide storage in new areas.
