On 23 May 2021, Undersecretary of State Marcin Przydacz urgently summoned chargé d’affaires of the Republic of Belarus, Aliaksandr Chasnouski to the MFA. The meeting was requested to express Poland’s firm protest against forcing a civilian Ryanair jetliner belonging to a company registered in the Republic of Poland to land.

Political consultations held by deputy chief of Polish diplomacy Marcin Przydacz and his Ukrainian counterpart Vasyl Bodnar reaffirmed the intensity of relations between the two countries. “The sudden escalation of violence resulting in a dramatic humanitarian situation and civilian casualties calls for urgent diplomatic actions,” said Secretary of State Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk during Tuesday’s video conference of the EU foreign ministers on the escalation of violence in the Israeli–Palestinian conflict.

On 18–19 May 2021, the Berlin Security Conference has taken place, for the first time as an online event. The 19th edition of the Conference is partnered by the Czech Republic. The two days of seminars and discussions are held under the motto “Europe – a cohesive bond for strong power”. The event is attended by representatives of government bodies, international organisations (including the EU, NATO and OSCE), think-tanks and defence industry as well as scientists and security policy experts.

On 17 May 2021, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to UNESCO, Ambassador Magdalena Marcinkowska on behalf of Poland deposited an instrument of ratification with Director-General Audrey Azoulay to join the Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage, done in Paris on 2 November 2001 Thereby, Poland ratified all UNESCO conventions on cultural heritage protection.

“We have discussed the possibilities of enhancing the Visegrad cooperation at the forum of international organisations, going beyond the scope of coordination of positions, which has been tried and tested over the years at the forum of the European Union. I have also presented Poland’s proposals related to potential specific initiatives at the forum of the UN, the OECD, and international financial institutions,” said Minister Rau after the meeting of foreign ministers of the Visegrad Group (V4).
