About GIOŚ
The Environmental Protection Inspection includes the Chief Inspector for Environmental Protection and 16 Inspectors for Environmental Protection who are part of the governmental administration in 16 voivodeships (provinces in Poland). The Authority was established under the Environmental Protection Inspection Act of 20th July 1991.
The Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection (GIOŚ) is the governmental office responsible for control of businesses using the environment on their compliance with the environmental protection law. The aim of the Inspectorate is to provide information on the state of the environment to the public and other administration bodies. The Inspectorate conducts the state monitoring and assessment of the environment, carries out laboratory activities and prosecutes environmental crimes.
To fulfill its tasks, the Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection cooperates with other control, enforcement and justice bodies, as well as with other national and local administration entities.
The Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection is a modern, professionally managed public institution, a leader among entities monitoring and controlling the state of the natural environment in Poland.
The Inspectorate develops and provides instruments for the effective implementation of the "National Environmental Policy" to safeguard the state of the environment for present and future generations.
The work and tasks of the Chief Inspector for Environmental Protection are subject to the supervision of the minister responsible for climate issues.
