Passports – general information
A valid passport document:
- entitles its holder to cross the border and stay abroad;
- certifies your Polish citizenship;
- certifies the identity of the passport bearer (with regard to the details listed in the document);
- is the property of the Republic of Poland.
A passport is valid for:
1. 5 years - when issued to a person under 12 years of age;
2. 10 years - when issued to a person over 12 years of age.
3. no longer than 365 days in case of a temporary passport, but its validity period depends on the circumstances justifying the issuance of the passport.
A temporary passport may be issued if:
- you are staying outside the territory of the Republic of Poland and are waiting to collect your biometric passport (if you file an application for such a document to be issued);
- in the event of an emergency (e.g. to enable you to return to the place of your permanent residence, due to illness /funeral of a family member/ work-related matters) if you submit documents confirming the occurence of the above circumstances.
IMPORTANT!
1. An honorary consul cannot issue passports.
2. When planning a trip abroad, check the current regulations defining the rules of entrance and stay on the territory of a particular country, including as regards the required passport validity period and the possibility of crossing the border on the basis of a temporary passport.
3. In case of collecting passport via courier (option available in special circumstances such as far distance to the Embassy, difficulties in booking time off work, looking after a dependent child):
- you will be required to provide a prepaid envelope with upgrated service "signature required" (prepaid NZ post envelope with "signature required" sticker)
- you will be obliged to activate the passport after receiving it via online service.
