You can file an application to issue a temporary passport with any Republic of Poland consular office you choose. Remember that you must collect the document in the same office in which you filed the application.

Yes, temporary passport applications need to be submitted in person.

You need to book your appointment to apply for a temporary passport via the e-konsulat.

NOTE: In an emergency (e.g. death of a family member, sudden illness, loss of documents and the need to urgently return to the place of residence), call a consular post and send an email describing your situation and attach supporting documents. In the email, please remember to state your name, surname, place of residence and your phone number. 

You can file an application to issue a temporary passport with the consul electronically during your passport appointment. The consul will file your application using an electronic form and you will be required to confirm the accuracy of your personal data by placing your signature on the dedicated device (signature pad).

You need to submit:

• a colour biometric photograph – check what the photograph should look like. Submitting the photograph together with the application is mandatory. You cannot replace the photograph or send it later. If no photograph was attached to your application or the photograph does not comply with the requirements, the consul will notify you that your application has been rejected.
• a valid passport document or a valid identity card (if issued) confirming your identity and Polish citizenship.

NOTE: in case of reasonable doubts as to your identity, citizenship or other details required to file a passport application, the consul may ask you to submit additional documents. 

REMEMBER: if you are planning to travel abroad with the temporary passport, check current rules of entry and stay of foreigners in the country of destination. Make sure that you can cross the border with the temporary passport and check the required validity period (at entry and departure).

• The fee for issuing a temporary passport while waiting for a biometric passport to be issued is NZD 41.
• The fee for issuing a temporary passport for reasons other than waiting for a biometric passport to be issued is NZD 102 in office hours.
• The fee for issuing a temporary passport for reasons other than waiting for a biometric passport to be issued is NZD 204 outside office hours.
• The fee for issuing a temporary passport for reasons other than waiting for a biometric passport to be issued is NZD 408 on a non-business day.

NOTE:

1. In case of a temporary passport, reduced fees do not apply (such fees are only applicable to issuing a biometric passport).
2. Fees are collected at the consular office when you file the application. 
3. The acceptable form of payment: EFTPOS card, bank transfer or cash.

You will receive the temporary passport as soon as possible.

• You will collect your temporary passport in person in the same office where you submitted the application. When collecting your new document, bring your previous valid passport (or temporary passport) to the consulate - the previous passport will be annulled and cancelled, except for pages with valid visas, and returned.

• In justified cases, the consul may depart from the requirement to collect the temporary passport in person and you can request to have it posted. You will be required to provide a pre-paid registred envelope (with signature-required option to ensure secured delivery - example below). The consul will send the passport to the indicated address via postal or courier service operator, ensuring the security of the document. When you know that your temporary passport is ready for collection at the consulate, send your current passport (or temporary passport) to the consul for cancellation. The consul will return the cancelled document together with the new one. 

NOTE: 

1. If you receive your temporary passport by mail, YOU NEED TO ACTIVATE IT using a dedicated electronic service here. In order to activate the passport, you need Internet access, the number of your temporary passport and the application number (which can be found on the receipt confirming the submission of your passport application).

2. Remember that the consul does not send passports to citizens staying outside the consular district in which the application was filed. 

Can I receive a temporary passport?

A temporary passport is issued solely in specific cases, for instance:

• if you are staying outside the territory of the Republic of Poland and are waiting to collect your passport (if this is your wish and you file an application for such a document to be issued);
• in the event of an emergency (e.g. to enable you to return to the place of residence or in case of an illness or funeral of a family member or work-related matters).

Can I file a temporary passport application if I lost my identity card and I have a new passport valid for 10 years ready to be collected in Poland?

You can file an application with the consul to issue a temporary passport to return to Poland. Remember to bring the temporary passport issued by the consul with you when you collect your new passport from the office (in Poland).

I lost my passport document. What do I have to do?

If you have lost your passport, you need to notify the passport authority immediately. If you are abroad, the passport authority is the consul.

Filing a passport loss with the consulate means that your document loses its validity as of the date of notifying the consul. You do not need to file a passport loss in person if you have a trusted profile, qualified certificate or e-identity card. In addition, you can also notify the loss of a passport document by means of a written letter with a signature certified by a public notary.

Remember! If you happen to find the passport whose loss you have reported, you should immediately return the document to the passport authority (the consul if you are abroad).
