Sustainable Development Goals

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are an action plan to transform the world so that the needs of today’s generation can be met in a sustainable way while respecting the environment and taking into account the needs of future generations.

At the summit in New York between 25 and 27 September 2015, the leaders of UN member states signed the document  “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”.  By doing so, they took on an ambitious commitment to work to reduce poverty in all of its forms; ensure access to education, food, and clean water; take action in favour of equal opportunities; promote human rights, peace, and stability in the world; protect the environment; mitigate climate change; and ensure access to sustainable energy sources.  President Andrzej Duda signed the declaration on behalf of Poland.

The document contains 17 Sustainable Development Goals and the related 169 actions to be achieved by all parties: governments, international organisations, NGOs, science and business, as well as citizens. They focus on five areas: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnership.

The actions form the basis of the new 2030 Agenda for the world’s sustainable development, taking into account the economic, social, and environmental aspects. This plan defines the most important challenges of our time. It presents a vision of how to build a better world for the benefit of the inhabitants of the planet and of how to make it a better place.

The implementation of the global development agenda by Poland is monitored by the Ministry of Economic Development. In the international dimension, the efforts of developing countries to fulfil the 2030 Agenda are supported by Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of Polish Aid activities.

SDGs

Each of us has a role to play because it’s about our common future!

The Sustainable Development Goals are the continuation of the Millennium Development Goals. They were drawn up by representatives of UN member states during the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, which was held in Rio de Janeiro in June 2012.
