    Russia’s brutal act of aggression on Ukraine, the increase in the costs of raw materials, and the COVID-19 pandemic have negatively affected the economy of many countries throughout the world. In this difficult period, the government supports the Polish citizens, among others, by lowering taxes or the implementation of the Government Anti-Inflation Shield. It is possible, among others, due to the effective sealing of the taxation system. In spite of the crisis faced by the entire world, the condition of the Polish economy is stable. The Council of Ministers has adopted an outline financial law for 2023. It foresees that in the next year, the revenues in the national budget are going to increase to approximately PLN 604.4 billion. In comparison to 2015, that is an increase of nearly 110%.

    Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has met in Copenhagen with the leaders of the Baltic Sea countries during The Baltic Sea Energy Security Summit. The countries signed a joint declaration to strengthen cooperation in the field of energy security. The main points of the summit were talks on eliminating dependence on Russian fossil fuels as soon as possible. The Head of the Polish Government stressed how important it was to ensure energy security in Europe and restore peace to Ukraine with a view to enabling action for an energy transition.

The politicians have also discussed continuing the support for Ukraine. During the visit in Paris, the head of government has also met the representatives of the French employers' organization MEDEF.

    The country’s raw material security is one of the priorities of the government’s activities. Especially now, when Russian aggression against Ukraine and Putin’s blackmail on raw materials is translating into an international energy crisis. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki took part in the ceremony of launching the gas link between Poland and Slovakia in Strachocin, in the Sanok county. The event was also attended by the head of the Slovak government, Eduard Heger. As part of the ceremony, the prime ministers symbolically turned on the gas transmission between the two countries. The gas pipeline is an important element of the North-South Gas Corridor, which will strengthen Polish and Slovak raw material supply security.

    Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki met with local government officials in Jasienica Rosielna (Podkarpackie Province). The Prime Minister communicated good news during the meeting: the government will allocate almost PLN 13.7 billion to support local government budgets. We will pay out additional funds later this year. The money will help cover the expenses of local governments related to lowering heat prices for consumers and improving energy efficiency in the region. Local governments can also use the funds for current expenditure and local investments. The bill on additional support for local governments has already been submitted to the Polish Parliament and will be discussed at a special session in September.

    Today, on August 25, the disbursement of the 14th pension began. This is one of the elements of the fight against inflation. We want seniors to be financially secure. This year, about 9 million seniors will receive the 14th pension. We will allocate over PLN 11 billion for the payment of this benefit. The head of the Polish government met with seniors in Siennica. He stressed that the essence of the government’s policy is to ensure a decent life for pensioners. The Prime Minister also visited the Fire Brigade in Siennica, where he met with firefighters.

    On the 31st anniversary of Ukraine's declaration of independence, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki recalled that Poland was the first country to recognize this fact. In a special recording, the head of the Polish government wished Ukrainian soldiers to celebrate in their homes and with their families next year, after they are victorious in the war against the Russian invaders.
