„35 years of Uninterrupted Economic Success. Case of Poland!” - Conference in Johannesburg and Cape Town with the Participation of Professor Marcin Piątkowski on the Eve of the G20 Summit

18.11.2025

On 17-18 November 2025, a few days before the G20 Summit scheduled in South Africa, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Pretoria organized the conference "Poland: 35 Years of Uninterrupted Economic Success."

„35 years of Uninterrupted Economic Success. Case of Poland!” - Conference in Johannesburg and Cape Town with the Participation of Professor Marcin Piątkowski on the Eve of the G20 Summit

During both meetings, Professor Marcin Piątkowski argued the thesis of a "Golden Age" of the Polish economy and outlined the foundations of a universal development model that could inspire countries in various regions of the globe. In turn, South Africa's Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr. Ashor Sarupen, presented the challenges facing the South African government in the areas of employment, investment, and reforms in a panel discussion in Johannesburg with Dr. Azar Jammin.

in Johannesburg, Jacek Chodorowicz, Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Pretoria, introduced on 17 November 2025 the conference theme by emphasizing that in 2025, Poland had crossed the symbolic barrier of USD 1 trillion, securing it the title of the world's 20th largest economy. He added that the story of Poland's economic success is still little known in many regions, including South Africa, hence the conference's initiative.

Professor Marcin Piątkowski – an economist, academic, and professor at the Kozminski University, with years of experience with the World Bank – presented a highly engaging lecture in which he explained to the audience how Poland, after a difficult period of war and communism, facing economic collapse, managed in just 35 years not only to transform and fully integrate into the free market system, but also to become a true growth leader.

For all those who were unable to attend the conference in Johannesburg or Cape Town, we have good news – a discussion was recorded and broadcast on Business Day TV between Prof. Marcin Piątkowski, Dr. Azar Jammin and editor Bronwyn Seabourne are available online:
