Botswana

Diplomatic relations between Poland and Botswana were established on 22 November 1978.

Political Cooperation

Diplomatic relations between Poland and Botswana were established at the level of ambassadors on 22 November 1978. The Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Pretoria is simultaneously accredited in Gaborone, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Botswana based in Stockholm is  accredited to Warsaw. In accordance with the Polish-South African arrangements during the period of 1988-1990, Poland opened a diplomatic and consular mission in Gaborone in 1990, whose main purpose was to render consular services to Polish diaspora living in the Republic of South Africa. However, this mission operated for a short period, as in October 1990 Poland and South Africa concluded an agreement on the establishment of permanent Bureaus of Interests in the capitals of both countries.

Economic Cooperation

The framework of cooperation between Poland and Botswana is defined by the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) signed by 6 SADC (South African Development Community) countries with the EU on 10 June 2016. Under the EU-SADC Economic Partnership Agreement, which includes 6 countries of the SADC group (including Botswana), Polish companies do not encounter any barriers to export their products to Botswana, have full access to this market and have the same conditions as other EU companies. There are no Polish investments in Botswana or Botswana's investments in Poland. The government of Botswana does not apply any obstacles to access to its labour market.
