The Polish documentary film “Against the Sands of Time” directed by Marcin Jamkowski and Konstanty Kulik was presented in Johannesburg at the initiative of the Warsaw Flights Commemoration Organising Committee, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Pretoria.
The film tells the story of the work of Polish archaeologists and conservators at 29 sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, scattered across five continents. The event also included the presentation of the exhibition “Geodiversity – along the Trail of Geology”. The event was moderated by Martin Urry. Pastor Robin Petersen, son-in-law of one of the participants of the Warsaw Flights, the late Pastor Bryan Jones, gave a speech. Petersen referred to his visit to Poland in August 2024 in connection with the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising. He spoke very highly of Poland and Poles. He spoke about the gratitude and memory of Poles towards the heroic Allied pilots who shed blood, bringing help to besieged Warsaw. The pastor also spoke with great appreciation about the changes taking place in Poland, the reconstruction and modernization of the country, but at the same time the still living memory of the past. The event aroused great interest and attracted many participants.
