Grand Opening of the Walvis Bay Investment Project, Namibia

14.11.2025

The grand opening of the Walvis Bay Independence Beach investment project (a park with playgrounds) took place on 14 November 2025. This project is part of a larger project financed by the European Union. The project has been implemented since 2022 in cooperation with the Polish municipality of Czerwonak and the Namibian municipal government of Walvis Bay. Completion is scheduled for the end of November of this year.

The project included comprehensive support for local government officials from the Erongo region, including organizing workshops, assistance in writing project applications for EU funds, and study visits to Poland to learn about good local government practices. Equally important was the presentation of the achievements of Polish NGOs and the targeting of some activities for the third sector in Namibia.

Among the participants of the event were: Trevino Forbes, Mayor of Walvis Bay; Jacek Chodorowicz, Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Pretoria; Marcin Wojtkowiak, Mayor of Czerwonak; Ana Beatriz Martins, EU Ambassador to Namibia; Wojciech Szpociński, representative of the Development Policy Foundation; and Joseph Amushila, project coordinator on the Namibian side.

In his speech, Chargé d'Affaires Jacek Chodorowicz spoke about the role of local governments and NGOs in Polish public life, as well as the growing interest of Polish companies and institutions in collaborating with African partners.

The Polish-Namibian project serves as an example of a sustainable European approach to public services, urban greenery, and building inclusive spaces that foster social integrity.
