Organization of the exhibition “On the Geology Trail” in South Africa
15.11.2024
On November 11, 2024, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Pretoria organized the exhibition “On the Geology Trail” in Pretoria, presenting Polish geological and natural heritage, as well as extraordinary Polish landscapes created as a result of geological processes.
The exhibition, prepared by the Polish Geological Institute - National Research Institute, is an attempt to show the beauty and richness of Polish landscape forms, which were shaped as a result of geological processes. Beautiful photos are supplemented with short comments, show the picturesque areas of the Polish coast, the Kashubian Lake District and the Suwałki Lake District, the Lublin Upland, the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, the Tatra Mountains and the Sudetes, as well as the highest cliff on the Polish coast and many other interesting places. They are a valuable source of knowledge about the genesis of the presented places, and also inspire further exploration. The mountains, valleys, lakes, coastal cliffs, caves and rock outcrops presented at the exhibition – although so different, have one thing in common – they are all the result of geological processes that took place in past eras and which continue to this day. The exhibition was patronized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Climate and Environment, and the Polish Tourism Organization was also among the supporting institutions.
The exhibition, which consists of 22 boards, was also presented to the public in Johannesburg on 15 November 2024.
The event contributed to the dissemination of knowledge about the diversity of the Polish landscape created as a result of many complex geological processes.
The exhibition aroused great interest and delighted with its beauty. The exhibition was viewed by over 300 people.
October 6 is International Geodiversity Day. This annual global holiday is an opportunity to popularize issues related to the Earth. The decision to adopt it was made last year during the UNESCO General Conference. It is also worth adding that Poland was one of the leaders among the countries that initiated this day. The International Geodiversity Day is a good opportunity to promote the values of inanimate nature.
